SN65HVS881: MC33978 vs SN65HVS881 comparison

Part Number: SN65HVS881
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIC12400-Q1

I have a customer currently using the MC33978. Our SN65HVS881 is not pin2pin with it and hard to push them to evaluate. Do we have any selling points or a comparison table with SN65HVS881 and MC33978?

  • Hi Jon,

This is better suited for an MSDI part such as the TIC12400-Q1 - as the MC33978 is a  22 input MSDI device and the SN65HVS881 is a 8 input serializer. The feature sets are very different from each other and probably shouldn't be interchanged without losing MSDI functionality.

While you can force the Serializer to detect that many switches but you will lose other functionality that most, if not all, MSDI switches support. Please look into the TIC devices as they are good MSDI parts and will be a lot more competitive.

    Best,

    Parker Dodson.
