TS3DV621: dp++ to dp and hdmi demux operation

Part Number: TS3DV621

hi ..,

In TS3DV621 demux mode(i.e. dual mode dp to dp and hdmi coversion),the singals coming out for hdmi  port are tmds complaint or not. Do i need to use any redriver in between ts3dv21 output and hdmi sink.

Can i get an IC from TI which outputs either dp or hdmi only(not like demuxing), from a dual mode display source  based on some input to that IC .

Thanks.

Are you asking if the signal is HDMI compliant or compliant to the TMDS electrical signal level? The output is compliant to the TMDS electrical signal level. For HDMI compliance, this depends on the source and the system design. The source output has to be HDMI compliant and you have to make sure there is enough margin in the system design to maintain the compliance. If not, then you can add a redriver or retimer at the output of the TS3DV621 for additional margin.

The dual source mode supports both DP and HDMI, most likely depending on the CONFIG1. When CONFIG1 is 0, the dual mode source will be configured as DP. When CONFIG1 is 1, the dual mode source will be configured as DP++ and then you can use a level shifter to go from DP++ to HDMI.

    Thanks

  • Hi david,

      Thanks for the reply.

ti_pdf.pdfFrom your explanation i understood that you are trying to say connection like in SCH1 of attached PDF. But i need an IC which can used as it is in the SCH2 of the pdf. I am trying to reduce number of output lines coming out from my system.

  • Hi,

The DP is an AC-coupled interface while the HDMI is a DC-coupled interface. You can not have the DP and HDMI share the same bus.

You can have the Dual Mode Source going to the DP connector through a DP re-driver such as the DP142. When a DP sink is connected to the DP connector, the CONFIG1 pin will be pulled low so the dual mode source will configure itself as DP. When a DP++ to HDMI level shifter is connected to the DP connector, the CONFIG1 pin will be pulled high so the dual mode source will configure itself as DP++.

    Thanks
