TRS3227: What is the difference between TR3227 and SN74AVC4T245RGYR

Part Number: TRS3227
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74AVC4T245

Hi Expert,

TDA3EVM design use SN74AVC4T245RGYR for uart.

Could I use TRS3227 for uart on TDA3 customer board?

What is the difference between TR3227  and SN74AVC4T245RGYR?

Thanks

Daniel

  • Hi Daniel,

"What is the difference between TR3227  and SN74AVC4T245RGYR?"

The TRS3227 is an RS232 transceiver and the SN74AVC4T245 is a direction controllable level shifter.

You typically wouldn't use a level translator to drive a cable whereas an RS-232 transceiver is designed to drive cables. I would assume the SN device would mainly be used for onboard communication since it likely can't drive the current required for cabling.

It depends what speeds and signals you need to send. Based on figure 4-1 of the TDA3EVM user's guide, it shows 4 UART signals. The CTS/RTS/TX/RX. The TRS3227 looks to be a single channel transceiver so it would only take care of TX/RX but you may need to get another or upgrade to a larger transceiver if you plan to use the CTS/RTS.

Let me know if you have any follow up questions.
