Hi

I have a small video player device with about a 4" LCD screen, but no TV out functionality.

Is there a 1 chip solultion, if not, then a 2 chip solution to take the LCD (I think it to be LVDS) signal and convert to HDMI (even normal composite video as the resolution will not be the best) and connect it to my TV for playback?

    Hello,

    Please review the following solution:

    LVDS signal---> SN75LVDS82 ---> TFP410 --->TMDS signal

    Note that the TFP410 is a DVI transmitter and despite DVI and HDMI has the same electrical protocol (TMDS) the TFP410 cannot process the audio portion of the HDMI signal.

    Hi

    I have just joined and have a query re. LVDS with particularly reference to LCD TV.

    ALL TV LCD/LED screens are driven by the TCON (timing and control) board, which in turn has an LVDS input connector from the main tv board. In order to test both the TCON board and LCD screen, I would like to generate an "external" LVDS signal and attached it to the LVDS input of the TCON board.

    I thought of getting an hdmi source (pc, dvd player etc), connecting the hdmi output to a "hdmi to LVDS converter board" and connect the LVDS to the TCON board and hopefully see on the TV LCD/LED whatever is playing on the pc, dvd player. Sounds too simple, surely there must be some programming involved to match resolution, refresh rates etc.

    Hello,

        You can use the TFP401A transform the TMDS input (DVI/HDMI without audio) to RGB and then serialize this parallel data into LVDS using the SN75LVDS83B.

    Hello,

    I found this posting and am looking to expand on it (a few years later).

    I have an old iMac with a damaged screen. It is a 27" screen with a 2560x1440.

    It appears to me that the tcon board is built into the video card/mother board, sending a data signal to the lcd via an LVDS cable. In order to not lose the computer functionality because of the broken screen I am looking to create an LVDS to HDMI converter, where I connect the existing LVDS cable to a board and export an HDMI signal to a stand-alone monitor.

    Is there a chip combination (and possibly an existing board design) that would accomplish this, taking into account the very large data (pixel) size? Note, sound data consideration may not be an issue as there is no sound data being sent to the LCD.

    Any advice is welcome.

    Hello William,

    As you may notice in this thread, we do have a two IC solution to convert LVDS to TMDS signals, however, this implementation is limited to panel resolutions of 1024 × 600.

    Hi Joel,

    I am quite new to video electronics. But why is that limited resolution is only 1024x600. According to TFP410 chip specs it can handle resolution up to 1080p. And I've seen the SN75LVDS83B chip being used in many tablets with greater resolution than 1024x600. Does the limitation only occur when using both chips together?

    Hello Tomas,

    The solutions is: LVDS signal---> SN75LVDS82 ---> TFP410 --->TMDS signal.

    Where the LVDS82 supports pixel rates up to 68 MHz and the TFP410 165MHz. Therefore, this solution is limited to 65MHz which is the approx. pixel rate for panel resolution of 1280×1024.
