SN65HVD3085E, is it possible to use for RS422

Dear Specialists,

My customer is interested in SN65HVD3085E for replacing SP483E(EXar).

He wants to confirm whether SN65HVD3085E is possible to use for RS422 or not, as the datasheet is not described RS422 at all.

Generally, RS485 device is able to use RS422, because RS485 is upward compatible to RS422.

Can it apply to SN65HVD3085E?

Also, Could you advise other suitable device to replace SP483E?

Hi Shinichi,

Yes, the SN65HVD3085 will work in an RS-422 application. As you pointed out, RS-485 devices will work in a RS-422 application but they may not be 100% compliant to the RS-422 specification. Attached are a few slides that highlight the differences between the two technologies. Please let me know if you have any more questions?
