DS90UB954-Q1EVM: DS90UB954-Q1EVM : ALP recognize 954 as unknown device

Part Number: DS90UB954-Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ALP, USB2ANY

Hello,

Having the exact same behavior as this case:

e2e.ti.com/.../2618093

What was the resolution?

Thanks,

Vivek

  • Vivek,

Please upload a picture of your UB954 board. I would like to verify the jumper settings. How are you powering the board?

What's your ALP installed version? Did you install ALP-Profile-Update V01 from TI.com? Is this issue on Windows 7 or Windows 10?

    Thanks,

  • Hi Vishy,

    Thanks for your quick response.

Photos of my boards are attached. The note about the 49.9ohm resistor has been taken care of on the serializer board.

This is Windows 10. I'm using the latest ALPs and downloaded and installed the update. I uninstalled and reinstalled my software today as part of the debug process so it is as clean as it can be.

I was powering the board with a bench supply set to 12V, 1A max current. The board set (Ser + Des) was drawing about 300-400mA if I remember right (not hooked up right now).

Also when I use an Aardvark and hook up to my own board (I have my own board set with a 954 on one and a 953 on the other) I can see the 954 properly in ALPS and the remote 953 as well. Shows that the ALPs is OK, unless it's an issue with the USB2Any part of the circuit.

    Thanks,

    Vivek

  • Vivek,

Thanks for sharing the photos and experiment with Aardvark. It could be that the USB2ANY (MSP430) firmware didn't get loaded or got corrupted. Please try the following

    a) Go to link below

    www.ti.com/.../MSP430USBDEVPACK

    b) Click on the "Get Software" link and download the highlighted file below

    c) Install MSP430_USB_Firmware_Upgrade_Example-1.3.1.1 Software (just application only, no source)

    d) After install run MSP430 USB Firmware Upgrade Software. Follow steps on the opening screen

    e) For your board BSL button S3 is switch S1. You have to hold S1 down and connect USB to the board for MSP430 to enter into BSL mode and recognized by this tool as shown below

    f) Save and select the firmware hex file (enclosed below)  and press upgrade

    g) The firmware I have attached is v2.7. So in the following folder, change the USB2ANY.DLL to be used to v2.7.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\Analog LaunchPAD v1.57.0010\Drivers\i2c_controllers\usb2any\python

Currently the default USB2ANY.dll file in this folder should correspond to USB2ANY.dll.2.5.2.

Change it to USB2ANY.dll.2.7.0 (just delete current USB2ANY.dll, and then copy, paste and rename USB2ANY.dll.2.7.0 as USB2ANY.dll). Note you need admin permission for your PC to do this.

    6406.USB2ANY_2_7_0_0.txt

Let me know if uploading the firmware fixed your issue.

    Thanks,

    Vishy
