Hello,

How should the AC coupling should be implemented when connecting a TUSB8041A hub to a USB Type-C connector through a HD3SS3220?

1. Capacitors on either side of the HD3SS3220 as used in the dongle evaluation module (http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sllu237/sllu237.pdf

2. Capacitors on the output of the HD3SS3220

You only need capacitor between the Type C connector and HD3SS3220, please use 0.22uF capacitor for SSTX (SuperSpeed transmitter differential pair) and 0.33uF capacitor for SSRX (SuperSpeed receiver differential pair).

Thank you for taking your time to reply, I will update the design to reflect that.

To confirm, the AC coupling capacitors should be placed as close to the common mode filter at the USB Type-C connector on the PCB? It details that here: www.ti.com/.../spraar7h.pdf Section 3.14

Yes, it should be connector + ESD + CMF + AC Coupling Caps + TUSB8041A.
