LMH1983: Output Differential Voltage of CLKout1~4 and Fout1~4

Part Number: LMH1983
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK04808

Hello,

My customer has a question about LMH1983.

[Q]

1. Does Vod(Differential Signal Output Voltage) correspond to `Differential Peak to Peak Voltage` in the figure below?

2. There is no electrical characteristics of CLKout4 and Fout4 in the data sheet, but is it a standard equivalent to CLKout1~3 and Fout1~3?

Best Regards,

Kaede Kudo

  • Hello Kudo-san,

Technically neither picture is correct for Vod, as Vod is the difference between the inverting and non-inverting output For example 1.425 V - 1.075 V = 0.35 V. No peak-to-peak.

It happens to be that for a differential measurement of Vod, you will find that the single ended peak-to-peak voltage of one output is generally the same as the Vod value except with units Vpp. So if a differential signal has a Vod = 0.35 V, then the peak-to-peak voltage of the non-inverting signal will be 0.35 Vpp. The peak-to-peak voltage of the inverting signal will also be 0.35 Vpp. The one detail that Vod allows is the delta Vod spec, which addresses if the two single ended waveforms were slightly mis-aligned such that sometimes Vod > 0.35 V and other times Vod* < 0.35 V. Where Vod = non-inverting - inverting; and Vod* = inverting - non-inverting.

Section 7.2 of the LMK04808 datasheet talks about this. And refers to Application Note AN-912, Common Data Transmission Parameters and their Definitions (SNLA036) for more information.

I will check about why CLKout4 isn't listed.

  • Hello Timothy-san,

Thank you for your fast reply.
    I understood about Vod.

I look forward to the next answer.
    Thanks for your cooperation.

  • Hello Kudo-san,

It is true that the CLKout4 didn't receive the same level of testing, therefore it was not able to be included in the datasheet.

From what I can see I expect the values to be the same, but cannot be specified in the same way on the datasheet.
