DS90UB948-Q1: How to configure 7-pin (SDOUT/GPIO0/PASS)

Part Number: DS90UB948-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB940-Q1

Hi team,

At the latest datasheet update, PASS-pin description has been updated and added a case of BISTEN=0.

But there is no explanation how to configure the pin 7 as GPIO0 or PASS. Could you explain it?

Best Regards,

  • Hello Hirai,

For GPIOs which are shared with other functions the configuration is done through the GPIOx_CONFIG registers. For GPIO0 as an example, it can either be "PASS" or a general purpose I/O based on bits [1:0] in the GPIO0_CONFIG register. Setting bits [1:0] = 00, then it is assigned to the functional mode which is "PASS"

  • Casey-san,

Customer tried 0x1D[7:0]=0x10 but pin 7 stayed at low even though the video transmission was no problem.

I also tried it in my lab that I connected UB949 EVM and UB948 EVM, enabled pattern generator at UB949 and confirm stable Lock, then set 0x1D[7:0]=0x10. The pin 7 stayed at low.

Is there any other condition or setting to use pin 7 as PASS during BISTEN=0?

    Regards,

  • Hello Hirai,

I just double checked with the design team and actually there is a mistake in the datasheet. For 948, PASS is only used for BIST functionality. It does not have any functional mode output behavior during normal operation. The PASS functionality that is described in the datasheet is only available for DS90UB940-Q1.

I am planning to release a datasheet update to 948 this quarter so I will also add this change.

    Best Regards,

    Casey
