SN65DPHY440SS: Does this part go though a actual de-skewing (finds the center of a bit time or eye and sample the data at the center) process or does it simply reclock the data on the input side and centers the clock in the middle of the data at it's o

Hi folks,

After reading the datasheet for the SN75DPHY440SS/SN65DPHY440SS part it is not clear to me how the part works.  Does it simply reclock and recenter the data?  Or does it work like a DDR memory interface where a calibration step occurs in deskew where it steps in small increments through a bit time (eye pattern) and determines where the center of the bit time is and samples the data in the center of the bit time (center of an eye pattern).?
