MSP430F5529: Why jumper of MSP430F5529 should be removed from 3.3V while configuring with the USB to MDIO tool?

Hello,

On the user guide of USB to MDIO tool, it is mentioned that, the 3,3V jumper from the isolation jumper block has to be removed, if the required voltage has to be applied.

I am trying to configure my Marvel PHY. The PHY ID's are all available when the jumper is not removed. However, the read and write operations do not give consistent values.

But, if the jumper is removed and an external supply is provided, all the PHY-ID's appear not available.

Is there anything that i am missing on? Please looking forward for some helpful answers as i am a beginner here.

Hi there,

The launchpad(MSP430F5529) is connected to the PC to power it. The 3V3 jumper is not removed.

The initial configuration of USB to MDIO tool works perfectly fine, with all the PHYID being available.

However, when the 3V3 jumper is removed from launchpad, the PHYID says not available.

Please help me understand why is this?

Hi Rakshan,

In the app note it states, remove the 3v3 jumper and connect desired I/O voltage to the 3v3 header. You need to confirm what the desired I/O voltage is for the SMI on your PHY for the communication to properly work.
