DP83869HM: Media converter with RGMII

Hi,

It's posible use DP83869HM in media converter mode with connected MCU with Gigabit MAC via RGMII?

I plan use it as media converter with web interface for changing operating mode and for SFP module DDM status info (RSSI and other informations).

    Yes DP83869HM supports media conversion. We can configure it by writing a few registers. --

    I have read snla318.pdf - chapter 1.11 RGMII-to-Fiber/Copper (Special Use-Case). 

    But I'm not sure if all three interfaces can work together - a classic media converter with a connected MCU for management and web server. Register settings are only described for RGMII-to-Cooper or RGMII-to-Fiber ... not for both together (If I understand it right).

    Hi JK,

    We can enter media converter mode either by straps or through following register writes :

    With these you can select data transfer between fiber and copper directly without any dependency on Rgmii. Does it answer your question?

    Will the MCU on the RGMII interface be accessible via the network?

    Hi,

    To interact with Rgmii, MCU will need to again write the register (assuming MCU is used to configure the phy) to convert phy into rgmii-cu or rgmii-fiber mode. To communicate to MCU, so that it can change this configuration of phy, we can send a special packet from Cu or Fiber side and raise an interrupt in phy. 

    I hope this can be a possible solution to access MAC via the network.
