TCA9406: rising/falling edge of SDA and SCL waveform doesn't meet expectation

Part Number: TCA9406
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TXS0102, TCA9803

Hi

we use a couple of TCA9406 in our project, currently our customer highlight waveform of rising/falling edge doesn't meet expectation
(it seem have spike and shoulder ), the artifact smbus from G/F to MCU of SDA/SCL (please refer waveform as attached)
could your please give us some suggestion how to improve ?? our customer expect rising /falling edge waveform is monotonically decreasing

artifac smbus --> G/F (host_3V3)-> TCA-9406 -> MCU(device_1.8V)

regards

David

  • For rising edges, a slow rise followed by a sharp rise is to be expected because the edge accelerator triggers only after some time. See A Guide to Voltage Translation With TXS-Type Translators (the TCA9406 is a relabelled TXS0102).

    The other problems look like reflections and ground bounce. This is probably unavoidable when going through long traces and a connector.

    You do not actually need a MHz translator; a slower translator like the TCA9803 might have fewer problems. In any case, short spikes like these are no problem for I²C/SMBus.
