ESD Protection requirement for SDI interface

Hi,

I am using SDI driver with part number LMH0302 and equalizer with part number LMH0344 in my design. Since the PCB is to be used in industrial area, I am planning to place the ESD protection circuitry at the output of driver and input of the receiver. Please suggest me the parts that can be used with these SDI devices.

Hi Madhu,

Normally SDI customers do not use ESD protection devices. There are a couple of reasons:

1). Most of these equipment are within building.

2). Secondly, using ESD protection diodes normally introduce parasitic that can violate SMPTE return loss requirement.

If you must use ESD protection diodes, please use ESD devices with less than 0.3pF loading capacitors.

Whether TI has any ESD IC/ Diode which is suitable for SDI interface?

The TPD4E02B04 device offers 0.25-pF IO capacitance per channel which makes it suitable for protecting high-speed interfaces up to 10 Gbps:
