TPS65982's device name for billboard function

Dear Sir,

  My customer open billboard function in their product and connect it to Win10 NB with type-c port, and they get Unknown device and "usb device not recognized" message. Does TPS65982 has device name/description for billboard? I see cypress' CY7C65210 can define name and other information for USB-billboard device. Thanks for your help.

    Hi Gary,

    Thank you for your question. Can you confirm that your customer is using the latest TI firmware (v1.5)? If they are not please have them upgrade to the latest FW that is on TI.com in the TPS6598X-Config tool.

    Once the v1.5 FW is loaded onto the TPS65982 it should billboard in the device manager as a "TPS65982" device.

    Hi Karl,
    Thanks for your update. In V1.5 FW, Billboard device is shown when CC communication failed in win10 device manager . Is that correct? (In V1.3FW, unknown device is shown randomly...)

    Gary,

    You are correct. When PD communication on the CC wire fails or PD communication is successful but Alternate Modes fail, the TPS65982 will expose the USB 2.0 EndPoint (EP) and Billboard when both "USB EP" and "Billboard Allowed" are enabled in the TPS65982-CONFIG Config Tool.

    The Win10 OS natively supports Billboard messages, and the TPS65982 will show up as the "TPS65982" in the Device Manager.

    There were updates made for Billboarding between v1.3 FW and v1.5 FW, so it is likely that the TPS65982 did not populate correctly in Device Manager for v1.3 FW.

    Hi Brian,

     Thanks for your kindly response. Can I know the FW update note fromV1.3 to V1.5? My customer's QC department need that for our FW release change. I find there's "about" link in webtool and there's webtool's update note, but customer think that's tool's release note, not FW's release note.
