Asking for the type C QC3.0 and PD3.0 solution recommendation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65982, BQ25703A

Hi Team,
MY customer would like to design type C port that can support QC3.0 and PD3.0.
Which combination solution we can propose?

Thanks,
SHH

  • Hi SHH,

Currently, we do not have a mass market USB PD 3.0 device. For applications that involve sourcing/sinking up to 5A of current and 20V, a USB PD 2.0 device will do the trick as well. In this case, I would recommend the TPS65982. If your project can wait until March/April of 2018, I believe we'll be releasing a PD 3.0 device for mass market.

Also, what specs does your application need from PD 3.0 that PD 2.0 do not have?

For QC 3.0, this isn't PD 2.0/3.0 compliant and we currently do not support it. I hope this helps.
  • Hi Arramis,
Thanks for information. If customer would like to use BQ27230 for the QC3.0 and use 982 in the same time, how to design the this combination?

    Thanks,
    SHH
  • Hi SSH,

I'm always happy to help. Our team usually reccomends the BQ25703A, but for addtional questions on BQ devices, please post in the Battery Managerment forum so that one of our engineering experts can give you the best advice.

Also, I would reccomend to order our TPS65982 EVM board and a BQ EVM board (depending on which device the battery management team reccomends). I hope this helps :-)
