Part Number: LMG3410-HB-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN6505A, , SN6505B, TIDM-1007, SN6501, SN6505D-Q1

Due to supply limitations, I can only get SN6505A's instead of SN6505BDBVR's .  It has a slower switching frequency than the
B.  This if for the 5V to 12V supply on the LMG3410-HB-EVM which I have included a picture of below.

  • I forgot to ask my question:  Can I use the A in place of the B for this circuit?

  • Hi Luke,

Thanks for reaching out and for your interest in SN6505A. The circuit for SN6505A and SN6505B is almost the same but the transformer will be different for both even for the same input/output voltage configuration. Since SN6505A has lower switching frequency than SN6505B, the transformer design is going to be different and the size will be slightly larger.

Although we believe SN6505A better suited for applications with stringent EMC requirements, we have seen SN6505B being sufficient to meet most EMC requirements. Let me know if you have any further questions, thanks.

  • Thank you Koteshwar.  Do you know the part number of the transformer with the same footprint as the one shown with the SN6505B that I can use with the SN6505A?  I am trying to get the same footprint  since the PCB is already made.  The SN6505B is not available so I cannot use its accompanying transformer either.

  • Hi Luke,

Could you please share the part number? It is unlikely to find a transformer with same footprint for SN6505A as the one from SN6505B.

If the reason for switching to SN6505A is the non-availability of SN6505B devices, then please be informed that SN6505A is also currently not available on TI website. The non-availability currently is due to very high demand of most of the devices. Hence, my suggestion would be to subscribe on the website to get notified when the stock comes back for SN6505B and continue with the same device that way you do not have change device and transformer.

Let me know if this is something that works for you, thanks.

  • Hi Koteshwar

The transformer on the gate drive card that accompanies SN6505B of the TIDM-1007 reference design is a Wurth 760390014

  • Hi Luke,

Thanks for confirming the transformer part number.

Although SN6505A can't be used with this transformer, please do know that SN6501 and SN6505D-Q1 use very similar switching frequency as SN6505B and hence can work very well with Wurth transformer 760390014. You can also see this transformer listed in SN6501 and SN6505D-Q1 datasheets as well.

SN6501 and SN6505D-Q1 can also be soldered onto SN6505B footprint without any need to change in PCB design. SN6501 doesn't have external CLK input and EN feature and hence, this features won't be supported. With three device options, I hope you find these devices available for you to order.

Let me know if you have any further questions, thanks.
