ISO7721: VDE certification for basic and reinforced

Part Number: ISO7721
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: STRIKE

Hello,
why do we only offer a VDE certification for basic and reinforced. The certifications for CQC, CSA, UL and TUV doesn't differentiate.

Regards, Holger

  • Hi Holger,

Thanks for posting your question on E2E.

DIN VDE V 0884-11 is a component-level standard for digital isolators.  The reinforced isolators go through more stringent requirements compared to basic isolators. For example, the standard requires that reinforced isolators must be able to withstand 10 kVpk surge strike (1.2/50 us waveform) in air or oil whereas basic isolators don't have a minimum surge test requirement. There are other differences as well such as partial discharge test multiples are more stringent for reinforced. VDE puts basic and reinforced isolators in two separate certificates / documents. That's why we offer ISO7721 (reinforced) and ISO7721B (basic) isolator options to our customers in DW package.

Our UL certificate provides 'Single Protection' isolation ratings. From the other agencies, such as CSA, TUV, and CQC, we get our digital isolators certified for system-level standards and those standards offer both basic and reinforced ratings in the same certificate depending on the working voltage and other conditions.

    Thanks,
