ISO7742-Q1: GND'ing Loss

Part Number: ISO7742-Q1

Hey Team,

What would the effect be of losing one of the grounds on the ISO7742-Q1 Digital Signal Isolator?

Are they redundant internally?

Best,
Dajon McGill

  • Hi Dajon,

    Thanks for reaching out.

The GND pin closest to VCC provides a short path to power supply circuit while the other GND pin provides good ground path to data channels. We recommend both these GND pins to be also connected together to the system GND for optimum performance across operating conditions, especially during EMI tests.

Both these GND pins are internally shorted and hence, you wouldn't see any noticeable impact on device performance during normal operating test conditions on a nominal sample if one of the GND pins is not connected externally. But it could cause a problem during EMI immunity tests, especially if the GND pin close to VCC is not connected. Hence, we recommend that both these GNDs be connected to system GND plane. Thanks.
