ISOW7742: Proper use of EN/FLT

Part Number: ISOW7742

The datasheet is pretty clear that you can use either EN or FLT but not both:

From the pin description table on pp6-7 of datasheet:

EN/FLT - multi-function power converter enable input pin or fault output pin. Can only be used as either an input pin or an output pin.

That seems wrong. Have a look at the figure from the datasheet:

So, is the implementation in figure 9-4 correct and the text description wrong?

  • Hi Kevin,

Thanks for reaching out and for your interest in ISOW7742.

So, is the implementation in figure 9-4 correct and the text description wrong?

The figure 9-4 shows how an output or an input pin of an MCU should be connected to EN/FLT pin in a single figure, which could also have been shown in two separate figures. Please note that, although connecting both an output pin and an input pin to EN/FLT does no harm, it might not be very useful in doing so. e.g., if you are driving the EN/FLT pin with an enable signal from the MCU, then it might get read as a FAULT signal incorrectly if you try to read it at the same time. Hence, it isn't very useful to use the pin as both at the same time.

Hence, the figure 9-4 is not wrong but has shown both EN and FAULT connections in a single figure. I hope this answers your question, thanks.
