ISO7240CF: Compatibility

Part Number: ISO7240CF
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24600, , ISO7041

Hi,

Good Day. I have a customer who is working with BQ24600. Please see below his query for your reference. Thank you very much.

I have a technical question regarding the drop-in compatibility between the ISO7240CF and ISO6740F/ISO7740F components. We're looking to replace the ISO7240CF in our current board design and I just wanted to confirm that using either the ISO6740F or ISO7740F will be a suitable replacement without having to modify the PCB layout.

I should also mention that we have the DISABLE and CTRL pins always set to LOW on the ISO7240CF.

Best Regards,

Ray Vincent

  • Hi Ray Vincent,

Thank you for posting to E2E! Normally our digital signal isolators are pin-to-pin compatible and functionally similar across product families, but the ISO7240CF is a unique device since it includes the "DISABLE" and "CTRL" pins which are meant to be pulled LOW for normal operation.

Other ISOxx40 devices have "ENABLE" pins in the pin 7 and pin 10 locations that should be pulled HIGH for normal device operation. Thus, ISO6740F and ISO7740F are not suitable replacements without the PCB being modified to connect the EN pins HIGH or leaving them floating. If the "D" channel is not being used, ISO7041 is footprint-compatible and wouldn't have issues with "ENABLE" pins being set LOW, but the "D" channel is in the reverse direction compared to ISO7240CF.

I hope this answers your question.

    Thank you,
    Manuel Chavez
