Hi,
in the ISO1410 datasheet page 26, we have the block diagram and it shows that the digital isolator is at DE, D, R side.
My question is: why can't we locate the isolator at A,B side? Then we will need only 2-channel digital isolator instead of 3-channel.
Hi,
Thanks for reaching out.
The general purpose digital I/Os of most digital devices use CMOS or TTL logic signals and hence, there are digital isolators for isolating those logic I/Os. While A and B signals are RS-485 defined electrical signal that are higher in voltage and are bidirectional. It is very economical to isolate the logic signals than directly trying to isolate a higher voltage high specification interface. For that reason, we implementation isolation on logic I/Os. Thanks.
