ISO7721: Can the ISO7721DR be used as an isolator for a CAN transceiver?

Hi there, can the ISO7721DR (the 8 pin SOIC chip) be used as a front-end isolator for a CAN transceiver (differential signal)? I noticed some isolators are noted for use with CAN-specifically, but not this one (unless I missed it?). Any considerations to take into account when doing so (if allowed)? Thanks!

Hello Oscar,

Thank you for your question and welcome to E2E. ISO7721 is a CMOS digital isolator and cannot be used to isolate differential CAN signals. Instead, please consider ISO1042, which is our isolated CAN transceiver, or using the ISO7721 to isolate the digital signals from a traditional CAN transceiver, like TCAN1042.

Hi apologies, my question was worded wrong - can the ISO7721DR be used to isolate the transmit/receive (D/R) signals from a differential transceiver? (The D/R pins noted below)

Hello Oscar,

Thank you for the clarification. Yes, a digital isolator can be used to isolate the digital signals going into D and R of the SN65HVD23x.
