ISOW1412: GND1 and GND2 have the same potential but not connected directly

Part Number: ISOW1412

Hi TI team,

Please review the topology attached.

The ground loops of DC power and RS485 are still independent. ISOW14X2 is isolated but does the connection break the isolation?

Will the connection cause unexpected issues?

Thanks

Hector

  • Hi Hector,

Thanks for reaching out and for sharing the block diagram to explain the connection.

From the diagram, you can see that both GND1 and GND2 pins of ISOW14x2 are connected to the ground labelled GND (green in color). Since they both are connected to the same ground, the system doesn't exhibit isolation. ISOW14x2 has isolation internally but the device isolation is being shorted externally by the shorting GND1 and GND2 pins externally.

Let me know if you have any questions, thanks.
