ISOW1044: Low power efficiency with ISOW1044

Hi,

My customer is contemplating if they should be using ISO1044 vs ISOW1044. They are attracted to use ISOW1044 with a simplified design however they had some concern over the low efficiency. At the same, there is an application notes indicating that there may be a potential EMI concern while using ISOW1044.

Can you help comment on the above?

Hi Christina,

ISOW1044 simplifies lot of design requirements in places where secondary supply needs to be derived from primary supply. It has one of the best-in-class efficiency for in chip transformer.

ISOW1044 meets CISPR 32 and EN 55032 Class B with greater than 6 dB margin on a two-layer PCB. Please go through the app note Isolate Your CAN Systems Without Compromising on Performance or Space (Rev. F) (ti.com) for more information.

Customer needs to make sure the design and layout practices as mentioned in the datasheet and How to Meet CISPR 32 Radiated Emissions Limits With ISOW7741 (ti.com).

If the customer is planning to use ISO1044, then SN650x transformer drives with an external transformer can be used for isolating the power.
