ISO1042: Non-isolation work

Part Number: ISO1042

Hi team,

Can ISO1042 work at non-isolation condition(short Digital ground and ISO ground as below)? Vcc1 is also shorted with VCC2. ISO1042 is powered by only one 5V.

  • Hi Naizeng,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Yes, the device should still function as expected if the two power supply connections (VCC1 & VCC2) are shorted together. Similarly, the device should also still function as expected if the ground connections (GND1 and GND2) are shorted together. Connecting both the power and ground pins of the device in this way is okay, provided that your application does not require isolation.

Any application that requires isolation will need to connect isolated power supplies and separate ground connections to the pins of this device. Otherwise, the isolation barrier from side 1 to side 2 of the device will be bypassed. However, if your application does not require isolation, but you still want to use the ISO1042, then it is perfectly okay to short the power supply and ground pins together. In this configuration, the device should still work as expected.

    Regards,

    Kenneth
