ISO1450DW - Galvanic Isolation RS485

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THVD2450, ISO1450

Hello,

We want to update old components bus based on RS485 to new ones.

Fieldbus is 1 Mbit/s, hard industrial environment (electrical stations). We replaced old driver by new THVD2450, it is running perfecly on our test board. Now we want to remove also our old insulation transformer (with galvanic isolation, ferrite is 16 mH on primary) see schematic, so we hesitate to use ISO1450 wich seems interresting (because it also have galvanic isolation and compact) , do you think ISO1450  can replace our old transformer  (galvanic+ferrite)? Should we must add components to target 1 Mbits  or ISO1450 is suitable ?

Cordially, Bruno.

  • Hello Bruno,

Yes, the second schematic is correct. ISO1450 is an RS485 transceiver with integrated isolation. With an isolated transceiver, the RS-485 transformer would no longer be needed.

1Mbit data rate will not need any additional components. Please refer to Figure 52. Application Circuit for reference.

    Best,
    Andrew
