SN6501: Output +15v by sn6501

Part Number: SN6501
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN6505B

hi sir

I need a isolator power +15v/-15v

below schematic is right?

thanks

  • Hi Alex,

Thanks for sharing the schematic for review, please see my comments below.

    1. SN6501 doesn't have EN or CLK pins, maybe customer meant to chose SN6505B and not SN6501.
      1. If this is true then the EN pin needs to be pulled up to VCC to enable the device and start switching.
    2. The VCC pin requires 0.1µF decoupling capacitor for it to reliably operate, please connect it as close as possible to VCC pin.
    3. The center-tap (pin 2) of transformer also requires a 10µF to maintain a stable input during the switching operation, please keep this capacitor close to transformer.
    4. The transformer turns-ratio needs to be slightly higher than 1:3 to be able to get ±15V output from 5V to make up for transformer efficiency, and conduction and switching losses in internal MOSFET and rectifier diodes.
      1. Please refer to the below application note for example designs and transformer suggestions.
        1. Signal and Power Isolation with 3.3 V / 5 V Input and 12 V / 15 V Output
      2. Please choose transformer such that it meets the Volt-time constant needed by SN6501 / SN6505B. You can also use the transformer calculator tool from the below link to design the transformer.
        1. https://www.ti.com/product/SN6505B#design-tools-simulation

Once the above suggestions are implemented, the design should be able to generate ±15V from 5V input. Thanks.
