[FAQ] ISO1452: [FAQ] How to configure a RS485 Full-duplex transceiver as Half-duplex?

Part Number: ISO1452

How do I configure a RS485 Full-duplex transceiver as Half-duplex?

  • A full-duplex RS485 driver can be configured as a half-duplex driver. However, the Y/Z pins need to be connected to the bus since these are the output (transmit) drivers.

Y/Z pins are the outputs of driver that transmit data from pin D while A/B are the inputs of receiver which receive data from bus and then pass them onto to the output R pin. When full-duplex is used, Y/Z and A/B pins are connected to communication cable separately. While, for half-duplex configuration, Y/Z pins are to be shorted to A/B pins to create one bidirectional bus for both transmit and receive, this is briefly shown in the below image.
