TIDA-010232: IEC 61557-8 clause 4.4.3 & 4.4.4 test condition Un = 0 not being met

Part Number: TIDA-010232

We have been evaluating TIDA-010232 measurement approach.

During testing we found that the Performance requirements (clause 4.4.3 & 4.4.4)  of IEC 61557-8 specification state to refer a condition “at nominal voltage (Un) between 0% to 115%”  for the performance measurement of Relative percentage uncertainty (A)  and  Response time (tan). But in TIDA-010232 measurement approach , if Un (i.e. VBUS or DC supply) is 0% (i.e. no supply) then we can’t measure an insulation resistance at all.   This will lead to not meeting the IEC61557-8 clauses 4.4.3 & 4.4.4. Could you please get back on this?

  • Hi,

    Thanks for reaching out.
First as an important note, our design is not certified against any standards.

You are correct that the approach of TIDA-010232 does only work when there is a voltage present.
To solve this limitation, it might be an option to add a separate low power HV power supply, to generate a voltage for testing in case there is no VBUS present.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards,

    Andreas
