ISO1412: Connection Method to energy meter

Part Number: ISO1412
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISOW1412

Hi this is jude from innospace automation. Our  application will collect  the data from energy meter through rs485 interface.

Here we are using ISOW1412DFMR for RS485 interface. In datasheet Page No 37  - Figure 11-2.  The Master GND2 pin is connected with all the devices GND2 pin which is in RS485 network(Image attached

In our design We have to connect the ISOW1412 chip's  A and B with energy meter which has only A(D+)  and B(D-) line only

Will any communication issue occur, if not connecting the GND2 pin with energy meter

Kindly give me the solution to connect the ISOW1412 with energy meter

  • Hi Jude,

    Thanks for reaching out.

The GND2 connection shown in the diagram you shared is optional. Some RS-485 nodes have the option for this and some don't. Having GND connection can minimize common-mode voltage on the bus but the device already supports a common-mode voltage of -7V to 12V, therefore this shouldn't be an issue. Thanks.
