ISO7021: IECEx marking on device

Part Number: ISO7021

I am currently having an issue with our notified body for Ex marking of a product where we use ISO7021 for IS-IS separation.
They state that the device itself has to be marked with IECEx and ATEx in order for them to accept is as an separating device.

What i can see from our ordered devices and the datasheet no such marking exists.

Can you confirm that current devices are marked or give me your opinion in this question?

  • Hi,

The device size is very small so EX marking can't fit on the device itself. The certification agency allows the supplier to put the EX marking on the packing label. If you check your ordered devices packing label, it should have EX marking similar to below:

  • Thank you for your fast answer. When i check the cut tape that we ordered 2022 from TI shop, it is not marked. Maybe it is only full tube / reel that is marked?

  • Yes, that's most likely the case since Ex marking is applied as a special/unique label printing process in the production facility. This special printing process isn't available in the product distribution center from where partial tube / reel is separated and shipped.

    Thanks,
    Saleem

  • Is it possible to get a copy of this marking to provide our certification agency with an example so they can determine whether they are accepting this or not?

  • Hi,

Yes, the marking is as shown below:

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

I'm also an interested party in this topic.
The provided marking of ISO7021 in this thread is only one part of the required marking, IEC 60079-0:2017-29.4.

Due to the fact that ISO7021 is considered a Extremely small Ex Equipment/Component in accordance with IEC 60079-0/29.3 and 29.4 must be provided.
Our certification agency requires this full marking.

There may be more, but at least the following parts of IEC 60079-0/29.3 are expected to be included in the marking:
    • Manufacturer,
    • Type identification
    • Serial number, or in this case I assume a batch number
    • "Certificate number/Approval code" name/marking of certificate issuer + two-digit year + "." + unique number-
Where the last one is likely: IECEx: "CSA 20.0012U" and for ATEX: "CSANe 20ATEX2090U".

Can you please provide us an example of a full marking for ISO7021?

    Best regards
    Johnny Merkel

  • Hi Johnny,

In addition to the Ex label provided earlier, the following items are included in the ISO7021 shipping label that is sent to customers:

    • Manufacturer
    • Type Identification (or Part #)
    • Serial # (or batch # or lot #)

I don't have a box of ISO7021 with me right now to send you an example of this device but below is an example of a shipping label of another device, ISOM8110DFGR, to illustrate this information.

If you received samples of ISO7021, then this information should be listed there.

Regarding certificate number, we were asked by the certification agency (CSA) to include this information in the data sheet, which is available online at:https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/iso7021.pdf (page 8). The certificate numbers are not separately listed on the shipping label and it wasn't required by the certification agency.

    Thanks,
    Saleem

  • Hi Saleem,

    Thanks for the fast response.
I understand, all except the certificate number is included. I personally think this should suffice, but I have to take it with our certification agency.

When possible, it would help us greatly if you could send over an image of the ISO7021 shipping label.

    Best regards

    Johnny

  • Hello Johnny,

Please allow us until the end of the week to review this request and get back to you.
