ISO6521: Need Digital isolation part for the below mentioned requirements

Part Number: ISO6521
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7721

Hi

Can you Please suggest the, digital Isolators, part number for the below requirements mentioned.

Isolation Resistance- 10M Ohms @ applied voltage of 1000V

Degree of Contamination- Class II as per IEC 60664-1

Over Voltage Category- Class II as per IEC 60664-1

Operating Temperature -20 to 60'C

  • Hi Sangeeta,

Can you please clarify your requirements, such as:

    1. Is the applied 1000 V Isolation working voltage (meaning it's applied all or most of the time) or is it Isolation withstand voltage (meaning it's applied occasionally/rarely)?

    2. Do you need functional isolator that doesn't have any regulatory approvals or certifications from agencies such as UL, VDE, CSA, etc. or do you require a certified product?

If answers to question 1 & 2 are 'Isolation withstand voltage up to 1000 Vdc' and 'functional isolator', then you can potentially use ISO6521D. Otherwise, you should consider ISO7721 (DWV or DW package).

    Thanks,
    Saleem Marwat

  • Hi Saleem

    Thanks for your response

Yes, for the first question the applied 1000V is Isolation withstand voltage(i.e Isolation Voltage). and for the second question, we need a digital isolator it should compliance to ISO 60664-1 safety standard(Degree of Contamination- Class II as per IEC 60664-1,Over Voltage Category- Class II as per IEC 60664-1)

Please suggest the parts which should meets the above requirements.

    Regards

    Sangeeta

  • Hi Sangeeta,

Texas Instruments doesn't perform component-level certification to IEC 60664-1 (which is a Standard for Insulation Coordination for Equipment within Low-Voltage Supply systems). Any compliance testing (if required) has to be done by the customer at equipment level.

As I suggested, if component-level certifications (such as UL 1577 & DIN EN IEC 60747-17) are not required, then ISO6521D can be considered. Otherwise, ISO7721 would be a good choice.

    Thanks,
    Saleem

  • The ISO7721 datasheet specifies the overvoltage category and isolation resistance in section 6.6 ("Insulation Specifications"). For the DW and DWV packages, they match your requirements.

The degree of contamination is not a characteristic of the chip, but describes your enclosure or environment.
