ISO1044: 8 Mbps operation?

Part Number: ISO1044
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO6721

Tool/software:

The TCAN1044 DS says it can operate at 8Mbps. I realize this is beyond the ISO CAN specifications. My customer has asked about an isolated CAN device that can do 8Mbps. Is it possible that the ISO1044 can do 8Mbps, the same as the TCAN1044? I've been told that operating at 8Mbps is difficult because of the potential for the external circuitry to be a limitation. If my customer decides to try this, it would be at their risk to make sure all of the other challenges outside of the transceiver were solved. Thoughts?

Thanks,

Mark

  • Hello Mark,

As you suggested, the faster speeds may be possible, but it is not recommended by TI and the specs may no longer follow datasheet min/max values. The customer could test at faster speeds at their own risk.

As a result, the ISO1044 is only characterized for speeds up to 5Mbps. Currently we do not have an isolated CAN device that is rated for greater than 5Mbps; the customer could implement isolation discretely using a ISO6721 and a non-isolated CAN transceiver for the logic IOs.

    Best,
    Andrew
