SN6507: Multiple Transformers with one Push-Pull Driver

Part Number: SN6507

Tool/software:

Hi TI Team

I need multiple isolated supplies for my analog front ends. Since I have really limited space I would like to use just one SN6507 for 10 transformers. Output of the transformer should be +/-6V at 30mA. Input voltage is 24V.

Is the SN6507 capable of handling multiple transformers?

Thank you in advance.

Regards Theo

  • Hello Theo,

Please give us an extra day to get back to you since today is a holiday in the US.

  • Hi Theo,

    Thank you for reaching out.

SN6507 can drive multiple transformers as long as the device's total input current doesn't exceed the supported input current of 500mA. Since the total input current required by the power solution with ten ±6V outputs at 30mA, the total input current is going to be much below 500mA. Theoretically, this is expected to work but due to the long traces between device pins and transformer terminals, the waveform can be very noisy and the overall solution might not be usable.

We recommend no more than 3 transformers to be connected to one SN6507 so that the trace length remains reasonable. This is important for efficiency, switching noise, output ripple and radiated emissions compliance. Thanks.

  • Hi Koteshwar

Thank you for your help. I will give it a shot an try it out. Maybe I can get it to work with 5 transformers per SN6507 by limiting the slew rate as much as possible and a proper layout.
