ISO1044: ISO1044 in not isolated application

Part Number: ISO1044

Tool/software:

Dear Experts,

We use ISO1044 in isolated application but in one case we do not need isolation for CAN but since we use

ISO1044 everywhere we do not want to introduce a new CAN transceiver so my question is is it possible to

use ISO1044 without isolation meaning that GND1 and GND2 are the same ground and VCC1 is driver by

the microcontroller's +3.3V supply, VCC2 instead is driver by the CAN bus +5V supply?

Thanks,

Andras

  • Hello Andras,

Yes, this is an acceptable way to use the device.

As you noted, the isolation will be bypassed so will not provide high voltage protection, but since you don't need that in this case, the device will work well functionally with the GND1 and GND 2 shorted.

    Best,
    Michael
