ISO1640: How ISO1640 influence the port input capacitance

Part Number: ISO1640
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9517A,

Tool/software:

Hi Expert,

This is Shenzhen FAE Evan. My customer use TCA9517A as a buffer between system SOC I2C port and external HDMI I2C port as shown in the schematic below. And A side is connected to external HDMI port, B side is connected to internal system SOC I2C. The issue is that, one test item of HDMI certification is the port input capacitance(should be below 50pF@100kHz I2C signal). Now they want to change TCA9517A to ISO1640. The input capacitance Cio of ISO1640 can be found in datasheet 1pF, I need to confirm whether ISO1640 can keep the input capacitance free of the influence of system side circuit?

  • Hello Evan,

The barrier capacitance is the capacitance of the isolation barrier and not the load capacitance. I believe load capacitance is the spec you are looking for (see below).

Side1 and side2 of the isolator are completely independent and the C1 and C2 do not affect each other.

    Best,
    Andrew
