ISOW7841A-Q1: Paralleling Viso outputs

Part Number: ISOW7841A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISOW7841, ISOW7721

Tool/software:

Hello,

I'm using the ISOW7841A to provide signal isolation and power additional communication ICs (RS485, isolators, etc.). I would like more output power capability. Is it okay to parallel the outputs of the  ISOW7841A ? If so, is there a limit to how many I can parallel?

Best,

  • Hi Jimmy,

    Thank you for reaching out.

The VISO output of ISOW7841 supports 130mA at 5V. Therefore, it can supporting powering other devices like RS-485 transceiver. VISO can be connected to as many devices required as long as the total load remains under 130mA.

If you need higher than 130mA and therefore, asking if multiple ISOW7841 devices can be connected in parallel to achieve higher total output current support then the answer is NO. ISOW7841 cannot do this. But ISOW7721 has this feature which allows connection of multiple outputs in parallel to achieve higher total output current. Please refer to the figure below from datasheet.
