ISO1642: differnce between I2C and GPIO statement

Dear,

It is not clear to us why speed of I2C is up to 1.7MHz per datasheet. But GPIO up to 50MHz. What is GPIO?
Also fast mode of 3.4MHz was mentioned, what is that related to?

Please clarify.

    The INA/OUTA/INB/OUTB pins are GPIO pins. You can use them to transmit some other control signals.

    The I²C channels cannot achieve such speeds because they use open-drain signals. 1.7 MHz is guaranteed with the maximum bus capacitance (400 pF); smaller capacitances would allow higher speeds.
