ISO7320-Q1: How to understand the Viowm of isolator

Tool/software:

I'd like to use an isolator for CAN signal isolation in HEV automotive applications.

There is a parameter which named Viowm in spec of ISO7320.

How should I understand the Viowm. It shows 400Vrms.

Does that mean I can't use it in the 800V car system?

Hi,

For 800V dc battery, 400V working voltage isn't sufficient. I recommend to use ISO7720-Q1 (DWV package) for 800 V applications.

VIOWM is a isolation parameter that defines the specified long term withstand capability of its isolation. This means that it is the maximum periodic voltage the isolator can safely support over the course of normal operation in the device's life time. Yes, since the car requires the 800V, the ISO7320-Q1 may not be able to support your system. However, we do have some newer devices that is capable to support the 800V car system.
