SN6507: Clarification on Turns Ratio nomenclature

Part Number: SN6507

Tool/software:

Hello,

Going through SN6507 transformer calculations I noticed the datasheet refers to "Turns Ratio" as Ns for Np=1 (see Table 9-3).

That's convenient since it's how most push-pull transformers are spec'd, but is inconsistent with typical transformer nomenclature where 'Turns Ratio" = Np/Ns.

This means the calculations in 9.2.2.5.2 actually give the reverse result... lower Vin needs more turns on the secondary, which is a **lower** conventional Turns Ratio Np/Ns.

I spent a bit of time grinding on this problem, perhaps the datasheet can be amended to clarify this. Thanks!

  • Hello Bryan,

Thank you for explaining your feedback. It looks like a few of the manufacturers wrote their turns ratios in the 1:x format, I suspect additional transformers were then matched to the format for consistency. I'll review with the team and take this into account for future datasheet revisions.

    Best,
    Andrew
