I checked both ISO1432 and ISOW1412. Both seems to meet my specifications but I really liked that the ISOW1412 has the isolated DCDC built-in.

I want to send a RS-485 communication through a 2 meter cable. My idea is to put an ISOW1412 on the control board and a ISO1432 on the daughter board.

Do I need that both transceivers are powered locally on their secondary side? Could I send the power generated by the ISOW1412 through the cable so it powers up the secondary side of the ISO1432?

Regarding shielding the cable, should I connect the shield to the isolated GND of both transceivers?

Hello Cant,

Thank you for reaching out and your interest in these parts. The transceiver can receive power over the cable as long as the power supply stays within the recommended operating conditions.

The cable shield should be grounded on one end of the cable through a low resistance path, typically to chassis or earth ground. This topic is briefly covered in section 9 of AN-1057 Ten Ways to Bulletproof RS-485 Interfaces (Rev. B) (ti.com).
