Hello Lillian,

The total surge protection on the RS-485 bus lines needs to be selected such that the voltage on the bus pins is below the absolute maximum limits of the ISO3080. The below reference designs cover the various methods that can be used to meet IEC 6100-4-x standards for surge, ESD and EFT.
