ISO7741TA-Q1: isolated 4 bidirectional channels with isolated power supply

Part Number: ISO7741TA-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN6501, ISO1640, ISO1641

Tool/software:

Hi,

Im looking for a isolation IC with 4 or more bidirectional channels.

From what I understand, only I2C isolators have bidirectional channels. Is there a way to get more bidirectional channels for those? With a unspecified isolated power supply?

Or is it possible to combine to different direction isolation channels into one bidirectional?

my input has two states, 2.5V and 0V. It is not I2C, just an common IO channel.

  • Hello Kato,

Thank you for reaching out. The only isolators that currently have bidirectional channels is the ISO1641 family. The recommended solution would be to use SN6501 for isolated power with ISO1640's to provide the bidirectional isolation.

Or is it possible to combine to different direction isolation channels into one bidirectional?

It is possible with extra circuitry; however, this is not recommended since ISO1640 is more reliable and far easier to design for than the discrete solution.
