UCC14130-Q1: Question about copper under IC

Part Number: UCC14130-Q1

Tool/software:

We're planning to use the DCDC converter IC, UCC14130-Q1, and bullet 7 on page 48 of the datasheet recommends no copper under the part.  I understand this for creepage, but we will likely have copper on internal layers. Will this affect the operation of the IC?

Thanks

Ken

  • Internal copper under the IC is sometimes used to make shields or internal PCB stitch capacitor. In such cases I connect the internal copper to GNDP (primary GND) and/or VEE (secondary GND). If you are considering routing signal tracks under the IC I would caution against doing that. The UCC14130-Q1 uses a high frequency internal transformer switching at ~15MHz. You would not route tracks under a transformer in a traditional DC/DC converter so you should not route under the UCC14130-Q1.
