Hi,

The Absolute Maximum Ratings shows that the maximum collector current is 50mA, but Figure 6-17. Current Transfer Ratio vs Forward Current shows that the maximum value will be much higher than 50mA acording to the calculation of CTR*IF. So, how much collector current can ISOM8118 support?

Hi Steve,

You are correct the maximum is 50mA as listed in the absolute maximum table. The ISOM8113 CTR graph is showing that you'll need to limit the IC with a resistor at higher IF values.

Hi Andrew,

But, If I don't limit the collector current when IF is high, and the collector current exceeds 50mA, will the IC be damaged?

When you exceed the absolute maximum ratings, then the device might get damaged.

The measurements for figure 6-17 were done with higher currents, but there is no guarantee that this is actually possible for you.
