LMG3522R030-Q1: Conduction in third Quadrant

Part Number: LMG3522R030-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi,

Is it possible to avoid current conduction in the third quadrant with this device?

Bests,

Oscar

  • Hi Oscar,

The GaN device can't block voltage in the reverse direction. To avoid third quadrant conduction losses, if you turn the device on you'll only have Rdson conduction losses.

  • Hi Kyle,

I am not sure If I fully understood your point.

You mean if they leave the device on they will have just conduction but no switching losses?

    BR

    Oscar

  • Hi Oscar,

GaN cannot block in the reverse direction (source to drain). When there is current from source to drain, the conduction losses will be different if you drive the gate on or drive the gate off.

In the gate off case with current from source to drain the conduction losses will be Vsd * Isd (Vsd can be found in the datasheet figure 5-6)

In the gate on case with current from source to drain the conduction losses will be: Irms^2*Rdson

    Best,

    Kyle Wolf
