ISO1228: PLease explain the low pass filter in this ic

Part Number: ISO1228

Tool/software:

consider me beginner  please explain this filter how it's used taking an example, and what it actually doing.

  • Hello Achal,

Thank you for reaching out. A low pass filter will average the input signal. Transitions at the input faster than 1ms will be filtered out by averaging the digital signal with the previous samples over a 1ms window. The digital averaging time would correspond roughly to an analog filter's cut-off frequency using the equation f_cuttoff = 1/t_avg = 1/1ms = 1kHz. Performing filtering on the digital signal reduces the need for additional analog components at the input.

Averaging the input signal will help to clean ISO1228 outputs and prevent the controller from responding to noise at the input.

    Best,
    Andrew
