UCC33020-Q1: Y Capacitor Usage in UCC33020-Q1 for New BMS Design

Part Number: UCC33020-Q1

Tool/software:

We are evaluating the UCC33020-Q1 isolated DC-DC power module for our new BMS design, comparing it with our previous design, which used the PDSE1-S12-S5-M-TR module. In our current design, we have a Y capacitor placed across GND and GND1 (ISO GND). However, in the UCC33020-Q1 EVM reference design, we noticed that no Y capacitor is used.

Could you provide guidance on whether a Y capacitor is recommended for the UCC33020-Q1 in our application? Additionally, are there any design considerations we should keep in mind regarding isolation performance and EMI compliance?

Looking forward to your insights.
