ISO1042: Power Supply applied only on Vcc1. Vcc2 supply is controlled

Part Number: ISO1042

Tool/software:

Hi,

ISO1042DWVR is a isolated CAN transceiver.

In my particular application,

Vcc1 is constantly powered on and is connected to MCU (CAN tx-rx side)

To avoid any damage/malfunction to the devices on the live CAN-bus, Vcc2 (CAN H-L side) supply is being controlled by MCU and will only turn on when the device is properly docked in place and ready to communicate.

This case is not mentioned in datasheet. Not sure if powering on only Vcc1 will cause any damage to the IC or not. Please advice

  • Hello Saurav,

Thank you for reaching out. VCC1 and VCC2 can be powered on and have signal applied independently without causing damage to the other side. So there is no issue with waiting to power on VCC2 until the node is properly connected.

The isolation part of ISO1042 allows for each side to operate independently without causing damage to the isolated side.
